Ninety kilometers of west-oriented coastline provides ample opportunity to wrest a couple of days out of one’s vacation calendar in order to sunbathe on the beach while the little ones swim and play in the sand.
There are 11 officially marked bathing beaches on Himmerland West Coast, but with no fewer than 90 kilometers of coastline there are actually far more nice swimming beaches where you and your family can sit for a few hour dozing in the sun with a refreshing dashes into the waves. In some places the beach is covered with small pebbles, in other places mussel shells, but in many places there are fine sandy beaches, and rarely do you have to go out more than a couple of meters into the water before there is a soft sandy bottom. If you don’t care to make your way over stones to the water, find one of the many swimming jetties along the coast. These are perfect for kids’ net-fishing for crabs, shrimp and small fish. Remember to bring a pail and your Speedo or bathing suit! In Løgstør there is a nice harborside swimming place which is extremely popular in the summer, but if you have small children along who like to swim, the beach near Trend with its shallow waters is a better choice. Both old and young can enjoy the fact that the water temperature in the Limfjord is consistently a few degrees warmer than that of the North Sea. The warm water, gentle waves, and the considerable distances between beach umbrellas enhance the Limfjord beach experience.
